My Baptist Heritage

This blog is not strictly about being a Baptist. I merely picked the name since it says where my roots are. I believe an open mind is not anathema to strong convictions. If you don't know who you are, how can you know what you are. Open discussion on differing points of view is the spice of life and we should love one another not simply because we see ourselves in others, but because of Whose children we are.

Tearing Down the Last Hero

They just can't stand it! Like an old wine-o willing to share his last swallow of booze to bring someone else down into his own personal gutter in a bizarre and vain attempt to alleviate his own guilt, God-less liberals want to destroy every hero we've ever had. They stand firm in their conviction that no one has ever stood firm in his or her convictions. They declare that none are righteous, except that we are all somehow inherently good.

Any hero this country has ever had has been assaulted and ascribed with the very sins that their accusers say really aren't sins. These small-minded gadflies attack presidents, politicians and preachers; they attack anyone who claims their is such a thing as morality. This they do in their own twisted pursuit to allege these great men are hypocrites and as inconsistent as those who impugn them.

It's the old slash and burn strategy! They go after everybody! Even attacking the Father of our country, George Washington. "They're all just alike," they say. "Even old George had women on the side," is their claim. (You know, just like Bill Clinton and Teddy Kennedy.) They say he, and the other Founding Fathers, were nothing more than money grubbing, over-zealous capitalists. They seek to ensure that even he is knocked off his pedestal. Yes, it's true that even our greatest heroes were only mortal, but the nay-sayers only desire to deride them and drag them down to their reprehensible level.

The last and greatest hero the world and the worldly minded want to drag down is the Lord Himself. They make condescending, sugary remarks asserting that Jesus was a "good man" and perhaps even a prophet, but that He certainly wasn't the son of God. They're supposition is that His friends, the Gospel writers, told lies about Him to build Him up to be more than He was. (Similar to the way the Democrats do Bill Clinton.) In the twisted recesses of the liberal, modern mind, that somehow makes sense.

So, in this new way of thinking, in this brave, new world, there are no heroes. No one is anchored in his convictions. God himself, if He exists, is an addle-brained, disinterested, absent Father who failed miserably where we are concerned. Sounds to me like somebody is simply mad at their Daddy and is going to hold his breath until he gets his way.

While no man is perfect and compared to God, we are all just "filthy rags," there are still those out there who stand up for what they believe. There are those who are truly focused "like a laser beam" on their God and His righteousness. They do what they can to improve themselves and this county...even this old world.

Then again, there are those who don't. They seem to go out of their way to "steal, kill and destroy." Always remember: it's easier to destroy a beautiful piece of art than make one.
